Morris Dale Gabbard, 81 of Columbus, died at 2 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Gabbard was born March 19, 1932 in Decatur County, the son of the late William Preston and Fanny Burris Gabbard.
He was a United States Army Veteran and he retired from Cummins Engine Company.
Mr. Gabbard loved his grandchildren and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In honor of his wishes, cremation is planned at The Columbus Crematory and private inurnment will be in Garland Brook Cemetery at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hathaway-Myers Chapel where online condolences may be submitted to the family of Mr. Gabbard at www.hathaway-myers.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or to Lakeview Church of Christ.
Mr. Gabbard is survived by a son, Morris Dale (Rebecca) Gabbard II of Five Points, Tenn; three daughters, Cheryl (Allen) Brooks of Indianapolis, Amber (Allen) Gilbert and Shawna Anderson, both of Columbus; a brother, Charlie (Betty) Gabbard; three sisters, Barb Shumaker, Margy Wood and Lillian Pettay; four grandchildren, Brennan Gilbert, Kristal Lindsey, Jessica Willsey and JoAnn Palmer; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gabbard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hiram and Bob Gabbard; and two sisters, Edna Henderson and Lucy McKinney.
