Floyd William Evans, 82, of Westport, passed away at 5:19 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon. He was born December 6, 1930, in Falmouth, Kentucky, the son of Ren M. and Bertie Mae (Clemons) Evans.
Mr. Evans moved to Decatur County at the age of 6 and resided in Decatur and Jennings counties the rest of his life. A farmer, he was a 1948 graduate of Sandcreek High School, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Alert United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working and pulling horses and spending time with his grandchildren.
He married Louise J. Lawrence in Westport on August 30, 1952, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2002.
Survivors include his daughters, Janet Marlene (Gary) Speer, Roxanne (Jim) Elsner and Iris (Tom) Biehle, all of North Vernon, and Sharon (Shawn) Gatewood of Westport; his sons, Forrest Ren (Dottie) Evans of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Brad (Karen) Evans of Crothersville, and Jeff Evans of Westport; his brother, Elbert (Helen) Evans of Butler; his sisters-in-law, Clara Evans of Greensburg, Mary Evelyn Evans of Austin, Texas, and Maxine Evans of Hamilton; his 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Freeman Gene Evans; a sister, Mary Francis Evans; and brothers, Charles Evans, Albert L. “Al” Evans and John Walter Evans.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. A time of visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
