John Henry Burton, 91, of Edinburgh, went to join the love of his life at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Burton retired from Amos Thompson Veneer and then owned and operated Burton's Sunoco in Edinburgh. He was the oldest living member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with the Lord and his family, gardening and driving his Model "T" Ford.
He had a grandson and a great-grandson who served in Afghanistan.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., with the Rev. Guy Hardin and the Rev. Ralph Foster officiating. Calling will be at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Arrangements were made by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
Born in Columbia, Ky., Oct. 5, 1922, Mr. Burton was the son of Gideon Burton and Belle Bryant Burton. He married Agnes M. Stapleton who preceded him in death Sept. 14, 2012.
Survivors include sons, Bill Boy (Karen) Burton and Eddie Dale (Susie) Burton, both of Edinburgh; a daughter, Judy Gale Lowman of Edinburgh; a daughter-in-law, Mary Burton of Owensboro, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David E. Burton; a daughter, Hattie R. Burton; a granddaughter, Wendy Burton; brothers, Nelse Burton, Willis "Jack" Burton, Oris Burton, Beatley Burton and Little Jim Burton; and sisters, Fannie Burton and Betsy Ann Giles.
