Jack E. Barnes, 80, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Jack was born in Hamilton County, to Gerald and Georgia Birden Barnes. He had been a member of the Moose Lodge since 1989. He enjoyed watching IU basketball, Colts football, and spending all his time before his illness "pulling tabs" at the Moose. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Jack had worked for Loesch's Heating & Air Conditioning, and was a county building inspector in Bartholomew County before teaching HVAC at Ivy Tech. At the time of his retirement, Jack was the facilities manager at Ivy Tech.
He is survived by daughters, Wanda Artist, Karen (Curt) McIntosh and Teresa (Rex) Bunch, all of Columbus; stepchildren, Theresa (Rich) Olson of Illinois and Joe (Ashley) Milliner of New York; sisters, Geraldine (Don) McElfresh of Elwood, Terry Barnes of Lexington, and Georgiana (Larry) Boss of Crothersville; grandchildren, Angie (Andy) Wiggins of Brownsburg, Tricia (Jim) Brookover of Greenwood, Brea Brewer of Freetown, Clint (Penny) Ahrmann of Columbus, and Kaitlyne Bunch of Columbus; stepgrandchildren, Curt McIntosh and Dennis McIntosh of Columbus, and Matthew Berg of Illinois; 11 great-grandchildren, and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Barnes of Georgia; his wife, Rose Barnes in 2003; and a son-in-law, Gary Artist.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Moose Lodge.
