Melvina Joyce Shackelford, 81, of 16th Street, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Kindred Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Kentucky on August 10, 1932, to Donley Thompson and Ruth Hall Thompson.
She worked for years at CP Electronics and Newsom Industries, Inc., retiring from Newsom Industries on January 4, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Walters officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Michael Alton Shackelford of Columbus; a daughter, Susan Rene (Archie) Combs of Guyton, Georgia; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Thompson of Hope, Gearl Thompson of Carrollton, KY, Dearl Thompson and Donald Robert Thompson, both of Columbus; and a sister, Evelyn Thompson Moore of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Alton Shackelford; her parents, Donley and Ruth Thompson; and brothers, Fred Thompson of Carrollton, KY, and John T. Thompson of Milton KY.
