Vera Eileen Bean, 90, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Silver Oaks Health Campus, Columbus, Ind.
Vera was born March 26, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late Max J. and Selma (Goettel) Sonnleitner.
On June 2, 1945, in Pittsburgh, she was united in marriage to Ernest H. Bean, who preceded her in death on February 15, 2011. Prior to her marriage, she did secretarial work for General Electric. She was a wonderful homemaker for her family.
In 1978 she and her husband retired and moved from Pittsburgh to Mishawaka, Ind., to be near their son Eric's family. She attended Albright United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in the Ladies Circle, and volunteering in the church office.
In 2008 they moved to Columbus, Ind., once again to be near Eric's family. In Columbus she attended Sandy Hook Methodist Church where she volunteered helping with the church bulletins and the chicken noodle dinners.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, Carl D. Bean. She is survived by her son, Eric (Jane) Bean of Columbus; two grandchildren, Timothy Bean and Emily (Paul) House; one great-grandchild, Allison House; and her brother, Reid Sonnleitner of Tuscumbia, Ala.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice.
Palmer Funeral Home and Southlawn Cremation Services of South Bend are assisting the family with arrangements.
