Mr. Eugene Day, 90, of Seymour, passed away December 25, 2013 at Covered Bridge Health Campus.
Born June 27, 1923 in Letcher County, Ky., he was the son of Loren and Mary Hampton Day. On April 18, 1946 in Letcher County, Ky., he married Geneva Nezelene Maggard who preceded him in death May 29, 2012.
Mr. Day was a World War II Navy veteran and retired from Cummins Engine Company after 35 years of service. He was a minister at Valley Home Baptist Church, Brownstown. Mr. Day enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching basketball and spending time with his family and all his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Roger E. Day, Teddy L. Day, and Robbin N. (Lori) Day; a son-in-law, Ronnie Froedge; grandchildren, Tracy Day Vaughn, Rita Sujan, Daniel (Julie) Day, Cindy (Jeremy) Wright, Patti (Brian) Terrell, Tommy (Riley) Day, Loren Day, Monica Day, Todd (Alicia) Froedge and Tonya (Sam) Ruf; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Pansy Whitaker, Irene Banks, Nadine Miller, and Dottie Fields; a brother, Tommy (Patty) Day; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; a son, Larry Day; a daughter, Jennifer Day Froedge; a brother, Otis Day; and sisters, Marie Ingram and Katherine Pack.
Funeral services will be held at Valley Home Baptist Church, Brownstown, on Saturday December 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Darryl Stidham, the Rev. Arthur Amburgy, the Rev. Arnold Bates, and the Rev. Jay Ingram officiating.
Burial will take place at Valley Home Memorial Cemetery, Brownstown, with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Friends may call on Friday December 27, 2013 at Voss Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at Valley Home Baptist Church after 10 a.m. until the time of service.
