Edith Louise Hines, 80, of Scipio went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her husband Jim and family members at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at her home in Scipio.
Edith was born on March 2, 1933 in Scipio, the daughter of Ira Roscoe “Buck” and Katherine Hubbard Buchanan.
Edith worked for First National Bank and Schonfeld Insurance as the Office Manager for 17 years in North Vernon. She was a member of Scipio Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Scipio Volunteer Fire Dept., and helped prepare funeral meals. She was a 1950 graduate of North Vernon High School. She enjoyed animals, gardening and canning food.
She is survived by husband, James Hines who she married on February 29, 1952 in Jonesville; one sister, June Grills of North Vernon; five nephews, John (Janet) Buchanan of Rinnick, West Virginia, Walter (Angela) Grills of North Vernon, Mike (Barb) Burkman, Wes (Machel) Hines, and Scott (Tamika) Hines, all of Scipio; eight nieces, Tina (Ken) Morin, Lisa (Lonnie) Lacey, Amy Grills, Rebecca (Jim) Umphrey, and Boni (Scott) Fewell, all of North Vernon, Laura (Kevin) Johnson, of Columbus, Debbie (Delbert) Rust, of Seymour, and Sherry Burkman of Scipio, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eugene and Tracy Buchanan; and one sister, Tressie Buchanan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dove Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Connie Bar officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. Burial will be at Scipio Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through Dove Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremations Services to Our Hospice of Jennings County or Mercy Rescue.
