Barbara P. Beard, 85, of Road 200S, passed from this life Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at her home.
A homemaker, Mrs. Beard was a faithful member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church where she was a member of the Greeting Card Ministry and the prayer chain. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Monday at the church. The Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Born in Lanesville December 22, 1928, Mrs. Beard was the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Schmelz Messmer. She married Ralph F. Beard June 30, 1948. He preceded her in death October 18, 2003.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Beard of Columbus; her daughters, Delores (Mike) Ferrill of Millhousen, Linda Beard of Columbus, Kathleen (John) Armentrout of Indianapolis, and Brenda Beard of Columbus; grandchildren, Sussette (Victor) Lawson, Mercedes (Lance) Griffin, Brandon Ferrill, Courtney (Jeremy) Glenn, Joshua Armentrout, and Bridget (Karl) Brandt; eight grandchildren; a sister, Clara (Joe) Pruitt of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandchildren, Heather Bradley and Natalie and Nathan Armentrout; a daughter-in-law, Pat Beard; five sisters; and three brothers.
