Michael J. Stickan PRC/CPO/E7, USN (Ret), 78, of Titusville, Florida, departed this life on January 1, 2014, from Parrish Medical Center, Titusville. He was born September 25, 1935, to Donald H. Stickan and Iris G. Roberts, in Columbus, Indiana.
Michael is survived by his sister, Sharon Collier (Terry) of Martinsville, IN; sons, Dana Stickans (Carolyn) of Columbus, IN, and Michael Stickans (Dianne) of Commiskey, IN; daughter, Jane Milsaps (Thomas) of Titusville; their mother, Vivian Toth of Inverness, FL; four grandsons; and two granddaughters.
Michael’s extended family includes his wife, Gayle Seltzer Stickan; stepchildren, Jacquie Dawes (Robert) of Titusville, Debra Akeley (Thomas) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Scott Seltzer of OK; three grandsons; and three granddaughters.
After Michael’s high school graduation, he persuaded his parents to sign for him to enlist in the U.S. Navy (it was 10 days before his 18th birthday). Twenty years later, he was the proud recipient of the following awards: Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbons, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Good Conduct Medal (Fifth award). During his career, he made 66 parachute jumps without injury. Next, Michael began a career at Kennedy Space Center and retired in 1998 from USBI.
Michael was a member of the Parachute Riggers Association (PRA) and Fleet Reserve Association and a life member of American Legion Post No. 1 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4228, Titusville.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2073 Garden St., Titusville, with the Rev. Bruce Alberts, Pastor, officiating.
