LeRoy Petro, 78, of Jewell Street, died at 3:06 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Petro was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. His most significant duty assignment was with the U.S. NAVCOMMACTS Pearl Harbor. He later served with the U.S. Naval Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962.
Mr. Petro was a former maintenance worker at Camp Atterbury and he retired from the maintenance department at Knights Inn. He enjoyed working on vehicles and gardening.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Virl Murray officiating.
Family and friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until service time Friday.
Full military honors will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Born in Brown County April 26, 1935, Mr. Petro was the son of James Ralph and Reba May Gardner Petro.
Survivors include his children, Robert Petro of Columbus, Debra (Delbert) Fleener of Martinsville, Reba Charlene Petro of Columbus, and Brenda (Wade) Nicholson of Morgantown; stepchildren, Mary (Brian) Merritt of Hope and Loyd Schwab of North Vernon; grandchildren, Chanda VanCleave (Mike Hacker) of Martinsville, Christopher (Misty) Fleener of Martinsville, Scott Fleener (Cassie Ward) of Paragon, Bobby (Kaelee) Wilson, Joshua (Shelly) Petro of Columbus, Jason (Tonya) Petro of Columbus, Amanda (Heath) Rittenhouse of Florida, and Clayton (Ashley) Catterton of Greenwood; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene (George) Groom of Stewartsville, MO, Geneva (Rodney) Gill of Freetown, Vangie (Ronnie) Harper of Alaska, Barbara (Scott) McCain of Columbus, and Ann (Steve) Booker of Kentucky; brothers, Kenny James Petro of Jonesville and Jim (Janice) Petro of Columbus; his former wife, Opal Marie Petro of Nashville; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Petro was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harry Petro; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Dean Petro.
