Lewis "Gene" Smith, 77 of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday January 7, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Health Facility in Greenwood.
He had worked for RCA for 43 years before retiring. He was a member of the Air Force Reserves, a member of Hope masonic Blue Lodge 150, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rites. He loved fishing, gardening and enjoyed being with his family.
In keeping with Lewis's wishes cremation is planned and a visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Hope Masonic Lodge or Waldron Masonic Lodge.
Born November 24, 1936 in Hope, Lewis was the son of Leslie B. and Madeline Marie Davis Smith. He married Helen Rutan on Sept. 7, 1957.
Survivors include his wife of Shelbyville; children Lewis E. (Yolanda) Smith Jr. of Shelbyville, Bonnie (Tony) A. Thopy of Shelbyville, Leslie Bruce (Julia) Smith of Summitville, John David (Tracy) Smith of Waldron, Michael Allen Smith of Waldron; grandchildren, John David (Brittany) Smith II of Waldron, Ethan Wayne Thopy of Shelbyville, Kamilah Martin of Shelbyville, Alexina Smith of Bloomington and Lillian Smith of Muncie; three great-grandsons and a brother, Tom (Linda) Smith of Hartsville.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Julian H. Smith; and grandson, Dylan Joel Smith.
