Mary Jean Swartz Durham, 70, of Taylorsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at 1:05 a.m. at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born in Columbus on July 15, 1943, the daughter of George B Swartz and Vola E. Rambo Swartz. She married Kenneth K. Durham in 1976, and he survives.
She is also survived by daughters, Melinda Settle (Paula), Diana Rodgers, and Debra Stinson (Emmett); sisters, Frances Simms and Ada Slinker; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randall Allen Durham.
Mrs. Durham was a former medical transcriptionist, working out of her home, after retiring from Columbus Regional Hospital and Professional Claims Bureau. She enjoyed cross stitch, crocheting, and knitting. She was an avid hummingbird watcher and loved spending time with her loyal companion, Buddy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Love Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Reverend Edward Wooddell officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be at the funeral home for 4 to 8 p. m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday.
