Mary Elaine Hamilton, 97, of Harbour's Edge, Delray Beach, FL, passed away January 13, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Sue Pringle (Warren) of York, ME; her son, H. Philip Hamilton (Susanne), of Fort Lauderdale, FL; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Hamilton, and their son, Stanley Hamilton.
Born in Seymour, IN, she graduated from Seymour High School and attended business school. She married William S. "Bill" Hamilton and they moved to Columbus.
Mary and Bill were part of the Hamilton family that started a small business - Columbus Specialty Co. As the business grew, the name changed to Hamilton Cosco and eventually to COSCO. Mary was the bookkeeper in the beginning and helped market the original product of match box holders. She was very active in the community, volunteering during World War II with the Red Cross at Camp Atterbury. She was active at First Methodist Church and served as president of the Women's Society of Christian Service.
An avid golfer, she enjoyed playing at Harrison Lake Country Club. After moving to Florida, she continued to play golf.
A private family service will be held with inurnment at a later date in Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts in her honor to Christ Church United Methodist, 4845 N.E. 25 Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308, or to a charity of your choice.
