She was an honor graduate of Port Huron High School where she was one of two majorettes to cross the International Blue Water Bridge during the opening dedication for that structure. She graduated with honors from Harper Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, Michigan, as the president of her class. She was a practicing registered nurse for over 30 years. Her experience at various hospitals included working as a nurse in the emergency room, pediatric, surgery, and home health care departments. She also ran the tuberculosis clinic in Columbus, Indiana.

She was a loving and devoted wife, extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, phenomenal cook (her apple pie was delicious) and seamstress. She loved to laugh, had a sharp sense of humor, read extensively, and loved to travel. Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory three daughters: Karen Coulis of Lowell, Indiana, Mary Dawson of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Nancy Caldemeyer (Robert) of Boerne, Texas. She will also be lovingly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Thomas Coulis (Jessica), Stephanie Coulis, Jennifer Dawson, Erin Gall (John), Jessie Dawson, Angela McCown (Patrick), and Jamie O’Boyle (Brian), and four great-grandchildren, Cadi Gall, Madison McCown, Jack McCown, and Charlotte O’Boyle.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Place – Boerne for their compassionate care of their mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the charity of your choice in Betty’s name. In keeping with Betty’s belief to savor life to the fullest, the family would be further honored if you would do something to put a smile on your face and laughter in your heart.
