Jeanne A. (Anderson) Hooker, 88, of Bloomington, passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, January 27, 2014, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Jeanne was born December 16, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Maurice and Edna (Radmacher) Anderson.
Jeanne received a B.A. in History in 1946, completed course work toward completing her Master’s degree from Indiana University and began her career dedicated to teaching in 1946. She began as a teacher at Columbus High School and Junior High School and two years later started teaching at Bloomington High School. She took off several years to have her four children and then started her own preschool in 1963. She continued teaching hundreds of Bloomington preschoolers (as well as school-aged children after school and in the summer) until 2008. Her children (including her school children) and grandchildren were the great loves of her life. History, teaching, Bloomington High School (South) and IU sports were her passions. She was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, as well as Delta Zeta and Tri Kappa sororities.
In 1950, she married John H. “Jack” Hooker, former Bloomington mayor, who preceded her in death in 1993. Together they had four children and they survive: Deborah Miles (Mike) of Fishers, John Hooker III of Bloomington, Robert Hooker (Denise) of Zionsville and Jennifer Brinegar (Jamie) of Columbus. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Katherine Jeanne Miles, Meghan Miles, Jennifer Miles, Jennifer Schwartz, Kevin Brinegar and Michael Brinegar, and one brother, Robert Anderson of Redkey, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Jim Anderson.
