Opal Herron passed to her heavenly home at 7:30 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014, at the age of 992/3.
Opal met her husband of 52 years and one day, James E. Herron, at Omar Bakery where they were both employed. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2002. Opal later became a private duty nurse and cared for the infirm for many years in Indianapolis. As a private duty nurse she was able to travel to many places, both in the United States and abroad.
She was born on May 27, 1914, in Morehead, KY, to Lillie and Lan Mays. She was preceded in death by all five of her siblings: Dee Mays, John Mays, Belle Atkins, Judy Slager and Monnie Lemasters. She is survived by five children: Daryl (Pat) Adkins, John (Barb) Ahlquist, Richard (Connie) Ahlquist, Virginia Wells and Debbie Tolbert. She had nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Opal loved gardening and had a green thumb. She also loved feeding and watching birds and going for long rides in the country. But above, all, she loved her family.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1st, at Garland Brook Mausoleum, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations, may be sent to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
