Ruth E. Russell of Yellowwood Drive, died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
Ruth was born in Woodsfield, Ohio, on May 27, 1927, the daughter of Roman P. and Clara E. Burkhart Wahl. She graduated from Woodsfield High School in 1945 and attended Miami Jacobs Business School in Dayton, Ohio. On June 23, 1956, she married T. Austin Russell. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1996.
Ruth and Austin moved from Ohio to Indiana in 1962 and were active in their community, ran several family farms, and opened Russell's Equipment Company in Madison, Indiana. Ruth always referred to herself as the company’s secretary, but in reality she was co-owner with her husband, Austin. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards at Mill Race Center where she was a member more than 40 years
She is survived by her children, Karen Ruth (Tracy) Turner of Dallas, TX, Kimberly Ann (Peter) Gore of Topsham, ME, and Kevin Austin (Sonja) Russell of Monticello; grandchildren, Blaine Elizabeth and Preston Scott Turner, Jared Austin Gore, Blake Austin and Taylor Harmon Russell; a sister, Estella M. (Jack) Bellotte of Navare, OH, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters, Elizabeth M. Brooks of Canton, OH, and Rita Kathleen Bruder of Allentown, PA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th St., with Father Doug Marcotte officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. until time of service Saturday. Burial will be at a later date at St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery in Woodsfield, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or Mill Race Center.
