Irene A. Carter, 75, of Columbus, died at 1:12 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Carter was a co-founder of Carter Sweeper Sales in 1976. She was a member of Central Heights Church of God and the Kentucky Club. She loved garage sales, flea markets and second hand stores.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from noon Monday until service time. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society.
Born Jan. 15, 1939 in Cramerton, NC, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Pauline Stilley Harris. She married James R. Carter May 6, 1955 in Sneedsville Tenn.
Survivors include a son, James M. (Denise) Carter of Hartsville, a daughter, Debra A. (Terry) Barkes of Edinburgh; a brother, Robert L. ( Jeannie) Harris Jr. of Ringgold, Georgia; grandchildren, Jennifer Devening of Freetown, Ronald Walker of Arizona, Christopher Barkes of Edinburgh, Nicole Windland of Columbus and Joshua Carter of Chicago; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on May 13, 2011; and sisters, Elsie Hale and Louise Maitland.
