Cathy Lynn Gentry, 67, of Elizabethtown, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Columbus.
Cathy retired from Scipio Elementary School where she was a teacher's aide for 19 years and loved teaching elementary children. She was a part-time secretary for Scipio United Methodist Church, where she was a member and participated in Hands of Hope. She also was “Myrtle” of the Myrtle & Turtle Clown Ministry and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her sour dough bread, mac & cheese, Christmas pudding (her husband’s family recipe), and strawberry-banana Jello dessert. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.
Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Mona Safley officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born in Columbus May 15, 1946, Cathy was the daughter of Ebert Louis Voelz and Wilma Pfeiffer Voelz. She married Wayne Gentry April 3, 1965.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Christopher T. (Sarah) Gentry, Franklin; a daughter, Lisa L. Gentry-Sterling, Columbus; a brother, Jack (Marilyn) Voelz, Muncie; a sister, Nancy V. Hoeltke, Columbus; a brother-in-law, Jerry D. Gentry, Columbus; a sister-in-law, Aleta Lewis, Columbus; grandchildren, Brittany Sterling, Jackson Gentry, and Isabela Gentry; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, James Gilbert Gentry.
