Violet M. Tichenor, 66, of Westport went home to be with her heavenly father at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

She had suffered and battled a long illness that she will not have to suffer any longer.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Church of The Nazarene.

She loved children and accepted many into her home, along with her husband they were foster parents to many children over the years.

She loved helping her grandchildren with their homework and also enjoyed, cooking, Christian music, crafts, camping, fishing, shopping, family gatherings during the holidays and was a Tony Stewart fan.

Most of all she loved doing daily Bible readings with her husband. She was a devoted Christian woman and prayed daily for her family and friends. It brightened her day when company would come to visit these past few years when she was bedridden.

Violet was born in Columbus on January 31, 1948, the daughter of Paul F. and Edna Lucille Cohee Henderson.

She marred Marshall L. Tichenor January 14, 1967.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Damon Spurgeon officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to time of service. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tichenor family through the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years; daughters, Starranne Shuler and Denise (Greg) Eubanks, both of Westport; a son, Greg Alan Tichenor of Westport; a brother, Mark Henderson of Hope; sisters, Lena Powell of Columbus and Esther (Dan) Dutro of Clifford; grandchildren, Isaiah and Eli Eubanks, Tim (Crystal) Shuler, Nicole and Levi Shuler; a great-granddaughter, Jody Lynn Shuler; and a stepgranddaughter, Tara Hempstead.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Dallas Henderson; a daughter, Alycia Fay Tichenor; and a grandson, Preston Tichenor.
