Elsie Pearl Mathis, 78, of Edinburgh, died at 10:23 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Known as the "Angel Lady," Elsie Pearl began crocheting multicolored angels nearly 30 years ago. She gave them away to friends and strangers and also gave hundreds of angels to our soldiers and their families.
A graveside service is planned at a later date.
Arrangements are being made by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
Born in Edinburgh Feb. 4, 1936, Elsie Pearl was the daughter of Charles E. Ferguson and Lena Marie (Stout) Ferguson.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harry A. Mathis; brothers, David A. Ferguson of Edinburgh and Richard (Nancy) Ferguson of Columbus; a nephew, 2nd Lt. Aaron (Lindsey) Ferguson; and a niece, Heather Ferguson.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie and Louis Ferguson; and a sister, Peggy J. Ferguson.
