Louis B. Brown, 79, of North U.S. 31, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation of Columbus.

Louis was born in Jackson County March 4, 1935, to the late Bruce and Lavada McHargue Brown. He married Doris June Gilstrap December 19, 1953, at Wray's Christian Church in Jackson County.

Louis attended IUPUC and Ivy Tech. He held a real estate broker's license and an auctioneer's license. He began work at the shirt factory in Jackson County and then opened Brown's Market in Lowell Addition. Louis also worked at Golden Foundry and Arvin Industries and later owned and operated Triple A Home Center in Columbus, Indiana. He won numerous sales awards from Clayton Mobile Homes and was an enthusiastic seller of SMI - Success Motivation Institute Programs.

Louis graduated from and was a member of the Dale Carnegie Course and was an avid member and participant  of Toastmasters. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and of the DMA of Asbury United Methodist Group.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Rev. Larry Carmichael. Family and friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Louis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris June Brown; children, Doneda Henry Brown and Hallett (Loretta) Brown; grandchildren, Lester (Kristin) Brown, Sandy (Chaz) King, Joshua Brown, Veronica (Kyle) Turner, Sabrina (Matt) Hodge, and Malachi Henry; and seven great-grandchildren.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Daniel Lee Brown.
