Mr. Nelson Larry Turner, age 73, of Vevay, IN, entered this life on January 1, 1941, in Gallatin County, KY, the son of the late, Paul J. and Elsie Mae (Phillips) Turner. He moved to Vevay at the age of four and was raised at his family's farm.
He was a 1959 graduate of Vevay High School. Nelson was united in marriage on January 27, 1962, in Madison, IN, to Sue Sides, and they were blessed with one daughter, Anita Turner McCullum. Nelson was employed for 40 years at Cummins as an HVAC Journeyman and five years were spent at the Holset Plant in Madison, IN. He was employed at the Charlestown Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, IN.
He was a member of the Butlerville Masonic Lodge No. 135 F&AM. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM, for many years. He was also an active member of his community and assisted at the Swiss Wine Festival, volunteered at his local YMCA and worked on the Democratic Election Board. He will be remembered for his love of gardening, raising roses, woodworking and his generosity among his neighbors. His greatest pride and source of joy were his twin grandsons, Jacob and Lucas.
Nelson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend to many. He will truly be missed in his community.
Nelson died at 12:04 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at his residence in Vevay, IN.
Nelson will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Sue (Sides) Turner of Vevay, IN; his daughter: Anita Turner McCullum and her husband Jerry of St. Leonard, MD; his twin grandsons, Jacob and Lucas McCullum; his sister, Pauline O'Day and her husband Jerry of Spring Hill, FL; his 6 sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ford of Lebanon, OH, Jane Stewart and her husband Chuck of Commiskey, IN, Faye Snyder and her husband Ron of Vevay, IN, Mary Sides of Vevay, IN, Ruth Taylor and her husband Melwood of Lexington, IN, and Wilma Turner of Vevay, IN; his 2 brothers-in-law, Fred Sides and his wife Elsa of Huntsville, AL, and John Sides and his wife, Judy of Versailles, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. & Elsie Mae (Phillips) Turner; and his brother, Alton Eugene Turner Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 14, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, IN 47043. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Switzerland County Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM Building Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home.
