James Leroy Rhodes, 84, of Edinburgh, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Ky.
He was born in Cleveland, Miss., September 23, 1929, the son of the late Jack Rhodes and M. Ester Fletcher Gant. He married Venita Mae Berry on August 10, 1951, and she preceded him in death on October 3, 2006.
James was a member of Victory Fellowship Church of God in Shelbyville, and was a retired fabricator for Conn-Aire. He enjoyed attending church, gospel singing, concerts and auctions. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
James is survived by sons, Ronnie Leroy Rhodes of Columbia, Ky., and Robert Dale (Sherry) Rhodes of Palm Bay, Fla.; a brother, Ernest (Ruth) Gant of Taylorsville; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Darlene Rhodes; and brothers, Norman E. and Bobby Rhodes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Who So Ever Will Community church in Edinburgh with the Rev. Mark Joplin officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until service time Wednesday at the church, 623 S. Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh.
