Robert Clayton “Bob” McClellan, 77, of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Bob was born July 27, 1936 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Samuel C. and Beatrice H. (Castle) McClellan. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1954. Bob then attended Bay City Junior College in Bay City, Mich. He was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Stringer on May 11, 1957 in Saginaw.

Robert spent 20 years working for Saginaw Steering Gear. He then moved the family to Shelbyville to work for IPC, an auto parts manufacturer for the next 20 years. Through those years he enjoyed working part-time as a meat cutter. After retiring in 1998, Bob kept busy working part-time for funeral homes in Columbus and Seymour. He also spent time showing homes to prospective homebuyer’s in the subdivision where he and Ruth Ann live.

Robert was a past member of First Christian Church in Saginaw and West Street U.M.C, in Shelbyville. Bob is a member of Garden City Church of Christ.

Other organization Bob was involved with included Elf Khurafeh Shrine Club of Saginaw, a VP of MDA of Saginaw and scoutmaster for a handicap scout troop in Saginaw.

Robert is survived by his wife Ruth Ann of 56 years; a daughter, Lynn A. (Todd) Horigan, and a son, Michael C. (Mona) McClellan; three grandchildren, Shannon Nigh, Samuel A. McClellan and Mary Beth McClellan; a great grandson, Spencer Nigh and a sister, Bette Ann (Andy) Bank. He was preceded in death by his parents and in 1983, a son, William R. McClellan.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Myers-Reed Dignity Chapel, 3729 25th St., where Rev. Virgil Clotfelter will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Private burial will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw, Mich.

Memorials can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Shriners Burn Centers or Garden City Church of Christ.
