Charles D. Shinolt, 73, of North County Road 650E, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Born in North Vernon on January 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Charles B. and Mary E. Randall Shinolt. Charles married Joyce M. "Jodi" Bailey June 22, 1988, in Gatlinburg, TN.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Columbus Fire Department in 1994 after 28 years of service. He was an avid golfer and was able to hit seven holes in one during his lifetime. Charles loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Columbus Fire Department Chaplain Ron Bridgewater officiating. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. In keeping with Charles's wishes, cremation is planned.
Columbus Fire Department Honor Guard will stand guard and military honors will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.

Charles is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kristen Arold of Seattle, Washington; a stepson, Brian Bailey of Columbus; a brother, James Shinolt of North Vernon; a sister, Brenda J. Bohen of North Carolina; and grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Arold, Brian Reid, and Bethany and Kristin Bailey.
Charles was preceded in death by his, parents; and brothers, Gerald and Rex Shinolt.
