Lester Eugene "Gene" Fox, 74, of Columbus, died at 9:10 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born in Columbus, January 5, 1940, the son of the late Ralph Fox and Mary Elizabeth Allen. He married Charlotte Khune Hulett on July 3, 1999 at New Hope Christian Church, and she survives.

Gene was a 1958 graduate of Columbus High School, where he played various musical instruments in the band. He retired from Arvin in 1999 after 41 years of service. He had served as the manager of facilities and MRO Purchasing.

Gene was a member of New Hope Christian Church, enjoyed bowling on local leagues, playing golf and watching golf on television, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Zach Fox of Palm Springs, Calif.; daughters, Karen Fox-Thompson and Susan Philyaw, both of Columbus; a stepson, Jason Hulett, of Columbus; grandchildren, Amy (Max) Goodwin of Seymour, Amanda Harmeson of Columbus and Peyton Philyaw of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother and stepfather, Paul and Mary Evelyn Perkins; his grandparents, Artie and Amanda Fox, with whom he spent a large portion of his childhood; and sons-in-law, Barry Philyaw and Neil Thompson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. John Sichting officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Christian Church. Online condolences may be made online at www.myers-reed.com.
