James B. Lyons Sr., 84, of Taylor Road, passed away at 3:22 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation.

Born August 17, 1929, James was the son of the late Ezekiel and Bessie Kitty VanHoose Lyons. He married Lorraine Waddell June 9, 1948.

James retired from Cummins Engine Company April 1, 1988, after 29 years of service. He was a member of Columbus Baptist Church, Columbus Masonic Lodge and Otter Creek Golf Course and enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Charles Kennedy and Meredith E. Waddell officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Columbus Baptist Church.

Beside his wife, Lorraine, James is survived by children, James B. (Marcia) Lyons Jr. of Columbus, L. Joe (Beth) Lyons of Charleston, South Carolina, Kitty R. Kamm of Kokomo, and Chris (Sheena) Lyons of Columbus; grandchildren, Amy Hammons, Joe Lyons Jr., Kerry Frazier, and Carol Broadway; great-grandchildren, Tyler Silence, Jacob Silence, Lydia Hammons, Luke Hammons, Logan Hammons, Ashton Frazier, Presley Frazier, Mattie Broadway and Sophie Broadway; a brother, Gerald (Margaret) Lyons of Ashland, Kentucky; and a sister, Kay (Mike) Miller of Ashland, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walter and Paul Lyons.
