John R. Shelton, 83 of Thicket Court, died at 9:22 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Indiana Masonic Home - Health Care in Franklin.
Mr. Shelton was a Truck Driver for 42 years; he retired from Miller Transport in 1995.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Simsboro, Louisiana and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Pastor Phil Barrett will officiate.
Family and friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to time of service.
In keeping with Mr. Shelton's wishes, cremation is planned and inurnment will be at a later date in Simsboro, Louisiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Shelton was born in Marango, Indiana on August 21, 1930, the son of Morris and Sudi Chenowith Shelton.
Survivors include his children, Gwen (Kenny) Lewis of Cottondale, Fla., Randy C. (Pam) Shelton of Columbus and Chuck (Kim) Shelton of Cullman, Ala.; a brother, Allen (Paula) Shelton of Rushville; sisters, Wanda Sowders of Rushville and Caddie (Don) Mathis of North Vernon; grandchildren, Eric (Lori) Cox, Michael (Sherry) Cox, Joshua (Jennifer) Shelton, Kyle Shelton, Ashley (Dr. Josh) Maze, Katelynd (Wesley) McKeller, Robyn Gorse and Stephen Gragg; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gordon Shelton.
