William Howard “Big Bill” Stitsworth, 61 of Columbus died at 5:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at I.U. Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.
Bill was born February 17, 1953 in Columbus, the son of Dale and Betty Carl Stitsworth. He was a graduate of North High School where he had played basketball for Bill Stearman. After graduation from Ball State University he received his Master’s Degree from Indiana University and had taught at IUPUC. Bill was currently a financial controller for Cummins Engine Company, an active member of the Jay-Cs and attended Garden City Church of Christ.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the donor’s choice of pet rescue groups in Columbus. Survivors include his mother, Betty Carl Stitsworth of Columbus; brothers, Henry (Jane) Stitsworth, of Minnesota, Stu (Cindy) Stitsworth, of Columbus and Steve (Adele) Stitsworth, of Pennsylvania; sisters, Diane (Roger) Hardin, of Columbus and Sharon (Ken) Spicer, of Florida; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his two beloved dogs, Willie and Sally.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Henry and Grandma Carl.
