Karen J. Corley, 78, of Columbus, passed away at 11:33 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Karen was born on March 21, 1936 in Bloomington to the late Wade and Velma Thomas Wampler. She married Donald Bates on December 2, 1955. Karen enjoyed going to church, gardening, the beach, singing, laughing, and smiling. Karen's Christian faith was an important part of her life. She was known as a natural caregiver and enjoyed her time at Miller's Merry Manor comforting other residents.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Rev. Scott Hundley officiating. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Karen is survived by her children, Jane Ann Kiehl of California, Sally (Ronald) Clark of Columbus, Gregory Bates of Texas, and David (Violet) Bates of Hope; 9 grandchildren, Jeff (Danielle) Rohm, Todd (Danielle) Rohm, Karin Kiehl, Tyler Kiehl, Tasha Bates, Raymond Bates, Mandy (Daron) Simmons, Brad Bates, and Bryce Bates; three great-grandchildren, Natalie Rohm, Dane Rohm, and Jayda Rohm; sisters, Janice Poolitan of Bloomington, and Mary Jane Worstall of Bloomington; and a brother, Kenny (Bobbie) Wampler of Martinsville.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents.
