John Dale Cordry, 86, of Taylorsville, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown.
Early in life, Mr. Cordry was a farmer, he had worked at various filling stations in Columbus and at Pepsi-Cola. He was the co-owner with his wife of the former Cordry Market in Lowell Addition and Animal World Pet Store on Central Avenue.
Mr. Cordry was a 58 year member and the last surviving charter member of the German Township Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling.
Services are not planned. In keeping with Mr. Cordry's wishes, cremation will take place.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the German Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.

Born in Shelby County January 20, 1928, Mr. Cordry was the son of Charles B. and L. Blanche Freeman Cordry. He married Dorma J. Barkes April 9, 1949.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Dorma; a son, Michail (Pamela J.) Cordry of Columbus; granddaughters, Heather Carnes of Columbus and Emily (Josh) Patterson of Columbus; great-granddaughters, Katie Scarlett Carnes and Gemma Rosalee Patterson; a sister, Hilda Shepherd of Franklin; brothers, Leibert (Geraldine) Cordry of Bloomington and Donald Charles (Nancy) Cordry of Elizabethtown; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cordry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carolyn Mock and Martha Cordry; a brother, Jim Cordry; and a grandson, Charles Neil Cordry.
