Ned Hiram Cole, 80, of Rushville, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born August 6, 1933, in Shelby County, the son of Hiram B. and Mildred Pearl (Benefiel) Cole. On December 1, 1968, he married his wife of 43 years, Janet Ann Marshall Lawson. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2012.
Survivors include his son, Terry A. Cole of Rushville; stepson, Mark S. Lawson and wife, Veronica, of Charlestown; sisters, Betty A. Larrabee and husband, Gene, of Shelbyville, and Millie Jean Boring and husband, Jan, of Northville, Michigan; sister-in-law, Wanda Cole of Greenfield; grandchildren, Tyler Cole and wife, Tabitha, of Shelbyville, and Tara Cole of Waldron; stepgrandson, Joshua S. Lawson and wife, Melodie, of San Antonio, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemary Dineff; and a brother, Ricky Dean Cole.
Ned graduated from Morristown High School in 1951 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1956 in Europe and Korea. He retired in 1990 from Naval Avionics where he was a machine inspector.
He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Shelby County and the Eagles Lodge.
Ned was a people person and he loved spending time with his family.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis Frische-Mouri officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the local military committee.
Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Shelby County.
