Bertha Breedlove, 97, of Columbus, died at 12:46 a.m. June 4, 2014, at Brown County Health & Living Community.

Bertha was born March 15, 1917, on the family farm in Bartholomew County, Indiana, the daughter of Walter and Carolena Winters Newkirk. She married Lewis E. Breedlove October 12, 1947. He preceded her in death August 22, 2008.

Bertha was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. She was one of 10 siblings raised on the family farm on the Bartholomew and Jackson county line. She graduated from Cortland High School and a two-year business college and worked along side her husband as office manager of Breedlove Homes.

Bertha trusted the Lord as her savior, her "healer and her provider" and taught her children to trust Him as well. She was a spirited champion for her family and a hard worker both at home and in her church. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church from it's inception.

She loved gardening. In the winter, she was busy sewing and cooking and sharing these gifts with family and friends. She was always looking after the needs of others.

The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Armstrong officiating. Calling will be from 2:00 p.m. until time of the service Sunday at the church. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Borchers, in Seymour.

Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
