Edgar F. “Bud” Harpring, 85 of Columbus, died Monday, Jun 9, 2014 at 3:20 a. m. at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Born Feb. 14, 1929 in Decatur County, Bud was the son of Bernard and Cecelia Hessler Harpring.
He farmed most of his life on the family farm in Decatur County and later in Bartholomew County.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Parish in Columbus, the Lyons Club in Edinburgh and was an avid Cincinnati Reds and college basketball fan.
He had worked as a Production Manager for Amos-Hill Veneer factory in Edinburgh.
Calling will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p. m. at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus with a Rosary Service, led by his son, David Harpring. Mass of Christian Burial for Bud will be celebrated by Fr. Doug Marcotte Monday at 10:30 a. m. at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus. There will be one calling at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy and Jamey Harpring, David Myers, Aaron Barker, Joel Walters and Brian Zerbee.

Bud married Thelma Lecher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg May 13, 1950. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, David (Vicki) Harpring of St. Louis, MO, Jeanette (Garry) Barker of Columbus, Samuel (Taresa) Harpring of Scipio, John (Belinda) Harpring of Columbus and Susan (Brian) Waltersof Greensburg; brothers and sisters, Vernon (Maureen) Harpring, Lois (Alvin) Laudick and Evera Wissel, all of Batesville and Luella (Ed) Lecher; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Schoettner and an infant sister, Ima Harpring; a brother Bernard Harpring.
