Edna Mae Steele, 91, of Columbus, died at 1:35 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at her home of 62 years.
Edna was born June 19, 1923, in Brown County, the daughter of Hallie and Alverna Taylor Olmsted. She married Thomas A. Steele July 11, 1941, in Nashville. He preceded her in death March 23, 1996.
Edna and Thomas were founding members of Asbury United Methodist Church and Edna also was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a time. She was a lifelong member of Order of the Eastern Star and Ladies of the Moose. She and her husband enjoyed fishing and traveling all over America. She also enjoyed watching Tony Stewart race and the Pacers.
Edna owned and operated Dura Style Beauty Shop for 23 years.
Her greatest joy was her two sons and playing with her two grandchildren. She loved her garden and her flowers.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen A. (Barbara) Steele of Pocatello, Idaho, and Randall T. (Peggy) Steele of Columbus; grandchildren, Kendra K. Steele of Indianapolis and Michael T. (Nicole) Steele of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Ayla and Oren Steele of Columbus; a sister, Ethel Perkins of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Carl, Glen, and Clarence Olmsted; and sisters, Olive Newland, Ruth Henderson, Josephine Smith, and Christine Warner.
In keeping with Edna’s wishes, no calling is planned and private family inurnment will be at a later date.
