Anna Chaille “Meme” Shireman, 88, of Westport, passed away at 2:09 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon. She was born December 4, 1925, in Greensburg, the daughter of Lester J. and Stella M. (Deweese) Bewley.
Mrs. Shireman moved to Westport in 1927 and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1945. She retired in 1988 from James River Corporation in Greensburg and was a member of Westport Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Shiloh Rebekah Lodge No. 560, and Order of the Eastern Star Otto Chapter No. 570.
She is survived by her daughter, Chaille Ann Fields of Greensburg; her grandson, David Lee (Misty) Veerkamp of Osgood; her granddaughter, Sherrie Leighann (C.P.) Roark of North Vernon; eight great-granddaughters, Chelsie (Seth) Sharp, Megan Lucas, and Kayla Ramsey, all of North Vernon, Ashlee Veerkamp, Lexi Herrmann and Emalee Veerkamp, all of Osgood, Amanda (Andy) Stewart of Seymour, and Samantha Roark of North Vernon; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jase Moore of North Vernon, Evan Stewart and Abbagale Stewart of Seymour, Aubrie Redkey of North Vernon and Delaney Roark of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James L. Bewley and Alfred E. Bewley; and her sisters, May L. Vernon and Mary J. Gardner.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. David A. Scaggs of Westport Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
