Earl Brock, age 90, of Crown Point, Indiana, formerly of Freetown, Indiana, passed away June 30, 2014. He was born July 4, 1923, in Freetown, to Fred and Aileen Harbaugh Brock.
A retired school teacher, Earl was a 1941 graduate of Freetown High School and served in the 20th Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a combat veteran of the Central Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University and a master’s degree in education from Butler University and taught school in Indianapolis for 37 years, teaching at Bluff Avenue School, IPS School No. 65, and Wanamaker and Acton Elementary schools.
Earl was a member of Brownstown/Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was raised a Master Mason at Clearspring Lodge in Kurtz, Indiana, and was a member of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 13 at Brownstown, Indiana, more than 50 years. He was an avid bird hunter and owned English Setters most of his life. He was a baptized member of Freetown Christian Church and also Southport Heights Christian Church in Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Brock Bland.
Survivors include a son, John (Karen) Brock of Crown Point.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Freetown Church of Christ, 7707 State Road 135, Freetown, with Rev. Barry Dewitt officiating. Interment will be at Freetown Cemetery. Friends may visit with Earl’s family from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
