Leland Hauck Brown, 72, of Joseph Cox Court, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Franklin Meadows Nursing Home.
Leland was born August 24, 1941, in Columbus, the son of Robert Singer and Christina Hauck Brown.
He was a 1961 graduate of the Indiana School for the Deaf, where he was on the wrestling and football teams, and was employed by Cummins Engine Company, retiring after 41 years of service.
He enjoyed watching sports, NASCAR and reading National Geographic Magazines and loved kids, especially his grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Thursday. Burial will be at Spraytown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana School for the Deaf through the funeral home.
Survivors include his son, Tony (Stacey) Brown of Edinburgh; a daughter, Andrea Ann (Matt) Brown-Thompson of Buda, Texas; grandchildren, Zara Thompson, Zami Thompson and Damian Brown; siblings, Jacque Coffey of Columbus, Phyllis (Don) Ashby, Nancy (Nute) Lukins and Susan (Mike) Dunn, all of Jeffersonville, Steve (Valerie) Brown and Mike (Lynn) Brown of Louisville, and Greg Brown of New Albany; along with 29 nieces and nephews; 29 great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
