Vernice J. (Jones) Wright, 92, formerly of Lafayette, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Silver Oaks Healthcare in Columbus. Born September 8, 1921, in Thorntown, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Nellie M. (Reagan) Jones. She was a graduate of Thorntown High School and went on to graduate from Indiana Business College. Vernice married Lowell M. Wright September 1, 1942, in Greenville, South Carolina, and he preceded her in death December 7, 2005.
A homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lafayette, Vernice enjoyed reading, playing euchre and dominoes, baking and cooking for her family.
Survivors include a son, Greg Wright (wife, Sharon) of Nashville, Indiana. Vernice was a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, Danielle Smith (husband, Adam) of Brownsburg, Kelly Fite (husband, Rick) of East Peoria, Illinois, and Scott Wright (wife, Amanda) of Palmerston North, New Zealand, and a loving great-grandmother to her 10 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Bart, Audra, Olivia, Steven, and Sophia Fite, Alaina Smith, and Louie, Maggie, and Archie Wright. In addition, Vernice is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette, with Pastor Ed Morrow officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
