R. Keith Wellman, 80, of County Road 100W, passed from this life at 4:55 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Keepsake Village of Columbus.
Mr. Wellman was an Indiana Army National Guard veteran being honorably discharged July 8, 1960.
He received a Master's of Education from Ball State University and was a longtime educator at Columbus North High School where he taught journalism and photography and was a newspaper and yearbook advisor. He was the official basketball scorer at Columbus North from 1971 to 1994 and was an IHSAA track, football, basketball, and baseball official for several years.
Mr. Wellman was a faithful member of Garden City Church of Christ where he was a church elder, Sunday school teacher and small group leader for many years and was currently serving as Elder Emeritus.
He was a member of Fishers Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star, Columbus Softball Association and Hoosier Promenaders Square Dance Club.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Garden City Church of Christ with Brian Gilroy, Virgil Clotfelter, and Ron Voss officiating. Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
A committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Garden City Church of Christ or the Alzheimer's Association.

Born in Noblesville August 16, 1933, Mr. Wellman was the son of Homer Roy and Edna Mae Hull Wellman. He married Luana M. Brooks June 12, 1953. She preceded him in death March 29, 2011.
Survivors include his children, Robin Wellman-Mahoney and her husband, Jon, of Naples, Florida, Roana (Terry) Huntsman of Columbus, R. Ross (Jo Ann) Wellman of Noblesville, and Ryan (Sherry) Wellman of Columbus; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Gay Wilson of Noblesville and Joyce (Flemon) McNutt of Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mr. Wellman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Jerry Dean, Jimmy, and Dennis Wellman; and sisters, Barbara Jo Wellman and Judy Mann.
