Marie LaVerne Jones, RN, 90, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in Beech Grove.
For more than 35 years, LaVerne worked at Schneck Memorial Hospital “saving lives and stomping out disease.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Barbara Gionet; her brother, Charles Gionet; her husband, William Mark Jones III; and two grandchildren, Jill and Will Jones.
She is survived by her children, Barbara "Sister Mary Luke," Mark, Margaret Nierman and Janet Kavanaugh, their spouses, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Because of LaVerne’s long-held dream of donating her body to science, there will be no viewing, but a memorial Mass to celebrate her wonderful life will be conducted at 11 a.m. July 26 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour. A luncheon will follow.
As a young nurse after World War II, LaVerne cared for soldiers wounded in the war. She always held a special place in her heart for them, so memorial contributions can be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA: Donation Processing Center , 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086) or to Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 1402 Southern Ave., Beech Grove, IN 46107.
