Robert Alan Large, 66, of North Vernon, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in a traffic accident in Warren County, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, at New Bethel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Connie Barr will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon.
Born March 9, 1948, in North Vernon, Robert was the son of the late William and Catherine Armbrister Large. He married Margaret Suhre August 22, 1969. She also died Tuesday in the same accident.
Robert graduated from Purdue University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He later received his Master of Science degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after 23 years with the United States Air Force where he worked as an aeronautical engineer. He later retired from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency where he worked in the tire management division. He was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and he enjoyed gardening, reading and bird watching. He moved with his wife back to North Vernon from Springfield, Ohio, two years ago, after retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Nathan Robert Large of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Evan David Large (Tsui Yi Cheah) of Aurora, Illinois; three sisters, Nancy Montgomery and Linda Lou Giddens of North Vernon and Carol Wolf of Butlerville; a brother, William Large of North Vernon; and a granddaughter, Evelyn Large of Aurora, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Claire Catherine Large; and a sister, Mary June Womack.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
