Roger B. Thomson, 81, of West Grandview Drive, passed from this life at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at his home.

Born in South Whitley, Indiana, January 31, 1933, Mr. Thomson was the son of Ralph Benjamin and Prudence White Thomson. He married Nellie W. Newell September 11, 1953.

Mr. Thomson was drafted into the U.S. Army in April 1953 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955.

He received a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Indiana Tech in 1960 and was the salutatorian of his class.

He then moved to Columbus where he started his career with Arvin Industries. After a succession of engineering management positions, his final assignment was vice president of Arvin's inflatable restraint systems from which he retired in 1998 after 38 years of service.

He was a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge No.20 of F&AM, Murat Shrine, and the Columbus Elks Club. For over 40 years, Mr. Thomson loved the lake life and was a former board member of Grandview Lake Lot Owners Association.

A sports enthusiast, Roger enjoyed golf, bowling, and traveling.

Survivors include Nellie W. Newell Thomson, his wife of 61 years; children, Denise Spurlock of Indianapolis and Tom (Michelle) Thomson of Carmel; and grandchildren, Stephanie (Rory) Baze of Phoenix, Arizona, and Braden and Andrew Thomson of Carmel.

Mr. Thomson was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Benjamin and Prudence White Thomson; a son, Dennis Thomson; a granddaughter, Sarah Spurlock; and an infant brother, Garth Thomson.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike. Additional visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel in South Whitley, Indiana.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel in South Whitley. Burial will be at South Whitley Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
