Keith L. Carmichael, 84, of Columbus, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Born in Columbus, July 9, 1930, the son of John M. and Elizabeth Gates Carmichael, he was the youngest of a family of 12 and the only one born in a hospital.

He married Lois R. Linnemeier in 1951. She preceded him in death in 1983. He married Mary Jane Ortlieb in 1984 and she preceded him in death in 2012.

Keith was a 1948 graduate of Columbus High School and pursued an engineering degree at Purdue University. He began working at Reeves and worked through the many transitions of that company to retire from Rockwell Automation.

He enjoyed many retirement years in Venice, Florida, where he enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He also loved sailing, working on cars, watching college ball and rooting for the Colts and Pacers. He was a loving husband and father.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara and Julia Carmichael, both of Columbus; a stepson, Jeff (Dee) Johns of Georgia; a sister, Shirley (Bob) Nicholson of Venice, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen; brothers, Dale, Avery, Gene, Donald and Lyle; and sisters, Dorothy Reiss, Lucille Leas, Ruth Deaver, LuVena Higgins and Maxine Pfeiffer.

A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. The family will receive friends and light refreshments will be served at the funeral home following the memorial service.
