JoAnn Jarnagin Kirts, 86, of California Street, passed from this life at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Kirts attended Columbus High School and formerly worked in the postal exchange at Charleston Air Force Base and C.P. Electronics in Columbus. She was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Edinburgh and Columbus retiring in 1988.

JoAnn's memberships included New Hope Christian Church, Mill Race Center, Purple Bells Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

A loving mother and grandmother, JoAnn enjoyed swimming, cross stitching, reading, bicycling, and watching movies.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with John Sichting officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or New Hope Christian Church.

Born in Taylorsville October 2, 1927, Mrs. Kirts was the daughter of Hobart T. "Joe" and Blanche Jolley Chandler. She married Marvin F. "John" Jarnagin November 11, 1945. He preceded her in death March 17, 1974. She later married Raymond R. Kirts November 11, 1976. He preceded her in death February 8, 2006.

Survivors include her son, Tim Jarnagin and his wife, Brigid of Columbus; grandchildren, Jon, Jordan, and Jenna Jarnagin; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Roy) Farr of Edinburgh; a cousin, Patty Smith of Columbus; and two nieces.

Mrs. Kirts was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brothers, Charles, Billy, and Jerry Chandler; and a sister, Norma Jean Pitney.
