The Rev. George L. Davidson, 77, went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at IU Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
George was born in New Castle, on June 11, 1937, the son of William Leo and Gertrude (Bills) Davidson, and attended Mt. Summit High School.
Mr. Davidson served proudly in the United States Army as a Corporal. George worked as a Roller for Ingelsoll Streel in New Castle for 30 years. He was Manager, Caretaker, and Trustee of Tomlinson Cemetery for over 46 years, and a valued member of the Parson Mortuary staff since 2008.
George was a member of United Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Inc. (UAC of JC). He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel on June 11, 1976. He was an active member of Safe Harbor Apostolic Lighthouse Church. George loved to spread the Word of God and genuinely loved people. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Davidson, Muncie; two daughters, Catherine Lynn Langley, (Robert) Columbus, and Leva Christine Sanchez, (Louis) Moraine, Ohio; three sons, George L. Davidson Jr., Anderson Tony Davidson, Muncie, and James E. Davidson, (Paula) Greensburg; a brother, Port Davidson, (Sue) New Castle; a sister, Louella Estle, Anderson; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents,William Leo and Gertrude Davidson; a step-brother, Alford Davidson; and three step-sisters.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Rick Monroe officiating. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery.
Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014, or one hour prior to time of service at the Mortuary. Military honors will be provided by Delaware County Honor Guard at the cemetery.
