William Ross “Bill” Janes, 76, of Columbus, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 3:35 p.m., at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
Bill was born in Nelson County, Kentucky, the son of Thomas F. and Frances C. Gray Janes. He married Sue A. Voelz on April 25, 1987, in Columbus and she survives.
Bill had worked for Arvin Industries as an engineer and retired after 35 years in 1998. He was a former member of 1st Baptist Church in Columbus. He served in the National Guard, graduated from the University of Kentucky, enjoyed fishing, and was a very organized handyman who could fix anything.
Survivors include his wife, Sue A. Janes of Columbus; children, Jennifer (Brad) Ludwick, Tim (Jenny) Janes, all of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kari (Allen) Drinnon, Seymour; step-sons, Scott (Carrie) Ortlieb, Seymour and Joe (Merri) Ortlieb, North Vernon; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-grandson; and three brothers.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. and Frances C. Gray Janes and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life for Bill will be at 1 p.m. Saturday August 30, 2014, at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St., Columbus. Bill’s family will receive friends from 11:30 until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
