Rita June Bray, 70, of Columbus, died at 2:38 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Franklin United Methodist Community.
Rita was born October 7, 1943, in Columbus, the daughter of Robert J. and Helen R. Elby Taylor. She married Richard C. “Dick” Bray June 10, 1962, at First Christian Church.
For many years she was a group leader for Weight Watchers. She was a former member of First Christian Church where she sang in the chancel choir and was a Sunday school teacher and Women’s Bible Study lecturer. She currently was a member of Bible Church of Columbus where she sang in the choir and belonged to Women’s Bible Study. She had also been a member of the Avon President’s Club.
Rita was a member of Columbus Herb Society, Delta Queen Steam Boatin' Society, and Red Hat Society, was an active supporter of Indiana Live Steamers and a former tour guide for Columbus Visitors Center.
She is survived by her husband, Richard C. “Dick” Bray of Columbus; sons, Jeffrey (Karen) Bray of Columbus and Richard P. “Rick” (Dawn) Bray of Orlando, FL; a sister, Marsha S. Taylor of Austin, TX; and grandchildren, Caleb, Taylor and Molly Bray.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday Bible Church of Columbus. Pastors Jerry K. Day Sr. and David Marvin will officiate. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street and from 9:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at City Cemetery.
